Quality and targeted adult educational resources

Aotearoa Education Services will tailor content to meet your organisation’s particular needs. We develop Unit Standard material which is designed to support adult learners to understand the content of their qualification/ programme and which support the learner to achieve competency. We also provide material designed to support adult literacy learners understand a range of concepts in the areas of reading, writing, speaking and listening, and numeracy; this includes booklets designed to gather evidence for the Level 1 Literacy and Numeracy Unit Standards (26622, 26623, 26624, 26625, 26626, 26627).

The owner of the business (Fionna Farquhar) is an experienced programme developer and can produce programmes suitable for workplace literacy and numeracy programmes, adult community education (ACE) programmes, or design New Zealand Certificate programmes, including assisting with applying to NZQA for programme Approval and Accreditation.If you are having assessment and moderation issues Fionna is also an experienced assessor and moderator and can provide guidance and expertise in these areas, including designing moderation systems. Fionna is currently a contracted NZQA moderator in the adult education domain.

Aotearoa Education Services is owned and operated by Fionna Farquhar. Fionna has significant experience and qualifications in the area of adult literacy, language, and numeracy (LLN) and Foundation Education generally. Fionna holds a number of qualifications in education and adult LLN ranging from NZ Certificate to Doctoral level. Fionna has a passion for second chance education and enjoys producing resources and developing programmes that support adults to achieve their goals.

Services and resources AES offers


Unit Standard Booklets

We specialise in Unit Standards at Levels 1 to 3. Unit Standard booklets provided usually include:

  • Student Booklet - with guided tasks to understand content

  • Assessment Booklet

  • Tutor Guide and Answer Booklet - including Model Answers

  • Assessment Schedule

We are in the process of developing our catalogue and price list; this will be uploaded shortly. We specialise in Unit Standard material suitable for the Foundation Sector and which were originally associated with the National Certificate in Employment Skills but which now would be suitable for the New Zealand Certificate in Foundation Skills Level 1 & Level 2.

When you purchase Unit Standards you have a choice of ‘off-the-shelf’ material or material designed just for your organisation. All Unit Standard materials are provided as electronic files in PDF format and are sent to you on a USB flashdrive and/or electronically. If you require paper copies of the material there are extra charges to provided these. Our average Unit Standard pricing starts at $350 (including GST). If you require co-branding, tailored material, or specific material designed just for your organisation then pricing can be negotiated.


Facilitation

The owner of AES, Fionna, is an experienced facilitator who has delivered programmes in a range of contexts including facilitating programmes for a range of workplace literacy providers, Corrections adult literacy contracts, NZ Certificate programmes, adult literacy programmes and is a contracted facilitator for the Commission for Financial Capability (Sorted and Workplace programmes). Fionna is available on a contract basis to suit your programme needs.

Our organisation can also advise you when recruiting facilitators/ tutors on what qualifications the applicants will need and specifications of expected experience. We can manage the recruitment process and interviews on your behalf or be available to provide expertise and advice, as suits your organisational needs.


Adult Literacy and Numeracy targeted resources

We provide a range of adult literacy and numeracy resources including tutor and learner resources designed to support learners with understanding a range of concepts in the area of reading, writing, numeracy, and communication. Resources can be designed to support adult literacy and numeracy programmes in the community, workplace or in educational or vocational programmes. We also design programmes suitable for Workplace Literacy and Numeracy Fund (TEC) programmes or Adult Community Education funded programmes. Programme design can begin at the RFP stage with initial concepts or include full programme design and related resources.

We provide all Unit Standard booklets and evidence gathering booklets for the NZQA Level 1 Literacy and Numeracy Unit Standards as ‘off-the-shelf’ products or can design these as tailor-made products to suit your context. The Level 1 Literacy and Numeracy Unit Standards are:

  • 26622 - Write to communicate ideas for a purpose and audience

  • 26623 - Use number to solve problems

  • 26624 - Read texts with understanding

  • 26625 - Actively participate in spoken interactions

  • 26626 - Interpret statistical information for a purpose

  • 26627 - Use measurement to solve problems

Our adult literacy and numeracy resources can be designed to suit a variety of contexts.


Moderation and Assessment Services

We can provide assistance with assessment or moderation services. Whether assessment is carried out on site or remotely we are available to either assess material or provide expertise to set up your assessment processes.

We can also advise you on a suitable moderation system for your organisation or set up a moderation system to suit your needs. Fionna is also available to assist when your assessment practices and moderation systems have placed you in the ‘High Risk’ category with NZQA.

Our organisation also provides professional development in the area of assessment and moderation.


Programme Design and Development

We design programmes for a range of contexts whether you are a PTE, ITO, workplace, ACE provider, polytechnic, wananga, WINZ contracted return to work programme facilitator, we can provide a programme to suit your needs. Our programme design also includes developing NZ Certificate or Diploma programmes and we can advise, or manage, applications to NZQA for Approval and Accreditation.

We can charge on a per programme basis for a set fee, on an hourly rate basis, or can negotiate other arrangements that suit your needs - for example we can be contracted to be available for advice on a programme’s assessment and moderation requirements on an as required basis during a set timeframe.


Professional Development

We are available for professional development of your staff and contractors in a variety of areas including:

  • Learning Progressions for Adult Literacy and Numeracy

  • Literacy and Numeracy for Adults Assessment Tool (LNAAT)

  • Embedding adult literacy and numeracy within your programme and/or delivery

  • Upskilling tutors in the Level 1 Literacy and Numeracy Unit Standard requirements - evidence gathering

  • Assessment and Moderation

  • Development of adult suitable literacy and numeracy resources

  • Facilitation of adult literacy and numeracy programmes
